Your laser eye surgery consultation: Text
When you come to clinic for a laser consultation, we'll do a comprehensive eye check.
This includes:
1 - A measurement of the power of your glasses (or contact lens) prescription (refraction). It is helpful if you bring your old glasses or any old prescriptions with you, so that we can get an idea of how stable your eye power is.
2 - A high resolution scan of the shape and thickness of your cornea using a topography machine (corneal topography).
3 - An examination of the retina (the camera film at the back of the eye (fundoscopy). This usually requires dilating drops, which enlarge your pupil for 3-4 hours. This makes your vision blurry and bright. It's a good idea to bring someone along with you to drive afterwards.
After these tests have been done, you'll be seen in clinic where we'll examine the front of your eye using a table mounted microscope called a slit lamp.
All of these tests put together, take time to perform, and you can expect to be in clinic for around 2 hours.
At the end of the process, we'll discuss what we've found and whether you're a good candidate for laser eye surgery. If there are alternative treatments, then we'll discuss those too.
You're always allowed a 48-hour "cool-down" period to enable them to think things through about surgery.
You'll be given some reading material to go through in your own time, so you can decide about whether you'd like to have surgery with a clear mind.
If you ‘d like to book an appointment, please get in touch today.
